Each is a distinct jasper variety, classified by its pattern and where it forms rather than by a different chemical makeup — all are dense, opaque forms of chalcedony quartz. Picasso Jasper shows abstract black-and-tan patterning and is mined in Utah among other locations. Picture Jasper displays banded, landscape-like patterns formed by mineral deposits during formation. Ocean Jasper is known for circular "orbicular" formations. We carry all three, along with other named jasper varieties, so you can shop by the specific look and pattern you're drawn to.

In its raw, unpolished state, some Bumblebee Jasper contains sulfur and arsenic-bearing minerals, which is why it needs careful handling during cutting and polishing. Finished, polished jewelry and specimen pieces like the ones we sell are sealed and safe for normal handling and everyday wear — there's no exposure risk once the piece is finished. As with any stone jewelry, we'd just recommend avoiding grinding, sanding, or creating dust from the piece yourself.

Natural jasper gets its color and pattern from mineral inclusions formed over millions of years, so genuine pieces show organic, irregular variation — no two are identical, even within the same variety. Dyed material tends to look overly uniform or unnaturally saturated. Every piece in our collection is hand-selected and verified before it goes on the floor, so you're getting the real thing without having to be the expert yourself.

Jasper is a durable stone — a 6.5-7 on the Mohs hardness scale — so it holds up well to daily wear. Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap and water, and avoid harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners. Store jasper pieces separately from harder gemstones like diamonds or sapphires to prevent scratching, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight or extreme temperature changes, which can affect color over time.
