Chocolate Travertine Onyx formed where a Mexican spring alternated between porous travertine and denser onyx, with the dark bands marking stretches when the water ran rich with iron. Water brings it to life! As it runs over the surface the tans deepen to caramel and the chocolate bands turn glossy, and every hollow fills with sparkle and shadow. Because every onyx forms differently, this pattern can never be repeated.
