Precious Coral, or Mediterranean Coral is a common name for the Corallium rubum coral species, found mainly in the Mediterranean Seas. Jewelry is made from the durable and intensely colored red/pink skeleton. Red Corals grow generally in shallow sandy conditions with low sedimentation, typically in dark environments, but sometimes in depths up to 300 meters! Their valuable skeleton is composed of intermeshed spicules of hard calcium carbonate and colored in hues of red due to carotenoid pigments. Metaphysically, Coral is thought to assist in expediting the transfer of knowledge. Stimulates the energetic pursuit of pre-determined goals and protects from depression/despondency.
